DOUGLAS ASHBAUGH – WEB ARCHITECT / INTERNET VISIONARY
603 Coquina Ct., Nokomis, FL 34275-2728 United States
Cell:
941-223-0329  Email: doug.ashbaugh@comcast.net / president@trafficcentral.com

Summary for Recruiters:

I am a
PHP, MySQL, LAMP, Apache expert with some .Net experience and a lot of web (Apache and IIS / Web Services) & UNIX admin experience, although I am not currently seeking a UNIX admin role; I do supplemental UNIX admin support as needed.  In general I am a web architect and web administrator, with lots of other skills.

My specialty in the UNIX arena was the dialect from
IBM known as AIX, with a secondary of Solaris from Sun.  I have more VB and VB.net experience than ASP.net/C# experience. The roles I am best suited for can vary substantially because I am a jack of all trades in most cases, however I have only limited experience in ASP.net/C# and very little Java in recent years, so I am not a candidate for walking in the door for C#, although I prefer C# to VBscript. If you have a client interested in a generalist with some ASP.net and C# experience (I actually used to teach ASP.net and C# years ago but have not revisited it in a while), I may be a candidate for ASP.net and C# positions.  I could ramp up again on ASP.net/C# in a few weeks, while I AM a walk-in candidate for website administration for either the Apache or IIS environment and for development in PHP or classic ASP, UNIX support, production support, application design, or I would potentially consider an AIX admin position in an environment where there are not too many servers.

I am very good at database design using
MySQL, Sybase, Oracle, and SQL development in generally any environment as I have worked with Informix, Sybase, Oracle, MySQL, and SQL Server 2000/2005.  I can take a customer from concept to production alone or with a team of developers.  I am generally a team lead in most environments and have been supplemental or backup management support in many situations, although I do not desire full time management, I do enjoy team lead positions and do the project management and tracking as such using MS project or other proprietary PM packages as needed by the client.

In almost all of my roles, the companies I support trust me with root or dba privileges and in my current and roles since the late 80’s, I have had such privileges. I am a senior consultant and trusted party to my clients.  I have passed recent FBI And drug tests with flying colors , as I have throughout my entire career, and am a
US citizen.

I would like to reestablish my expertise with C#/ASP.net but my job opportunities of recent past keep driving me and busy on the PHP / LAMP or classic ASP path.  Keep that in mind while talking with clients and feel free to share this section directly, as it makes sense.

Senior UNIX administrator, developer, and CM supporting 24x7 Global Cash Management Services (Traveler Cheque System). During this time, I was doing website development on the side for companies (old clients) in
Texas. At that time I used Softquad Hotmetal for the efforts. Citicorp applications developed and supported included process alarm monitors that used a shared memory model for alerts and controls and was written in C and C++ on HP/UX platforms.

I was wholly responsible for the N-tier generic architecture communications and security framework written in C/C++ with a Visual C++ client. I did not do most of the client GUI but helped on interfacing as I designed and coded the entire socket and DCE RPC based transaction framework from the client to the database.

UltraCom Incorporated, Austin TX
UNIX Developer and UNIX/AIX Administrator (11/91 - 05/95)
Developed the very first multimedia toolkit for
IBM’s RS/6000 AIX based processor series.  Kit was written in C and C++ and was called the UltraCom Media Composer/6000. IBM evaluated it prior to IBM’s UltiMedia Services/6000 were released. Development included socket based communications objects and scanner interface code. Side note: Assisted in the original evaluation and design of the HTML 1.0 standards via informal relationship/friendship with Dan Connolly the original HTML developer. My cousin worked with Dan at HAL computers in the Austin, Texas think tank/incubator, and I was asked on several occasions to eval and test the HTML standards out. These were the early days of HTML, and I was one of the first to ever think about and utilize it (before it was publicly recognized or ready). This was part of an effort that competed directly with Mosaic (now Netscape), named OLIAS (on-line information access service). Some of my comments and thoughts actually changed the original design of HTML tags and use. I also was a professional UNIX admin with focus on AIX for several large customers.

IBM Corporation, White Plains NY (Misc Locations Nationwide - Significant International Travel throughout career)
Senior Systems Engineer, Programmer and AIX Specialist, Public Tradeshow Speaker (11/81 - 01/92)
Numerous demonstrations programmed and scripted on
IBM RS/6000 and competitive systems for customer demonstration and marketing. During my career with IBM, I coded numerous applications ranging from burning ROM and assembler code to BASIC and other HLL’s including SmallTalk. Languages used during numerous manufacturing tool and robotics systems development or interfacing included C, C++, Netbios, TCP/IP, SNMP calls, VAL (Adept robotics language), CNC and other PLC controller programming. The bulk of my career was highly technical and mostly programming oriented prior to becoming an SE for the AIX strategic marketing and road show support efforts. I was also in charge of tech support for RS/6000 launch road shows and presented at national and international conferences as a marketer for AIX based products. I am a trained public speaker and trained professionally through Communispond of Dallas, Texas.

Gulton Industries, West Greenwich RI
Electronics Technician (10/78 - 10/81)
Designed, built, and supported electrical test equipment that supported company production of medical chart recorders. Limited programming of various controllers and other electrical/canned control microprocessors.  This job was highly electronics design oriented with maybe 10% programming oriented, but mostly electronics design and custom components and systems build from the ground up oriented.

DOUG ASHBAUGH - RESUME - PERL SPOTLIGHT

I am a very knowledgeable Perl programmer. I know the subtleties of the language and the hidden tricks that stump most programmers in reading the code. I am very knowledgeable at Perl regular expressions, back reference use, and many other internal and hidden Perl tricks, which is important, especially when maintaining or translating code to other languages.  I’ve been coding in Perl since 1996.

Perl Experience (References Work Experience Section of Resume):

BATCH, CGI, & ORAPERL:

7 Years Convergys - Perl batch programming (thousands LOC), Oraperl,
CGI for web presentation of data. Some DBI package use as well.

ACADEMIC INSTRUCTOR:

Classroom Trainer for
HOTT – Taught Perl several times in classroom for HOTT.

Atlanta, GAOct. 21-24, 2003

Albany, NYSeptember 15-19, 2003

St. Louis, Missouri - July 15-18, 2003

Houston, TX - June 16-22, 2003

Classroom instruction included basics through advanced. Advanced topics included regular expressions, backreference use, and DBI/
DBD interface labs to MySQL. Student reviews all excellent. Click HERE for student comments. Click HERE for classroom experience (which includes ASP and ASP.net instruction as well).

WEBSITES IN PERL (many through the years):

MANY websites, and many not shown here due to mostly customer’s discontinuing their own site operations. Without specific review, these site use Perl DBI/
DBD interface:

http://Ewone.com - Major changes and fixes. In production.

http://SubmitterCentral.com – Install and modifications - in production.

http://MyDentalPlan.info - Designed site and added a Perl lead capture system.

http://BannerVortex.com - Custom designed banner exchange. Many similar…

There are many other Perl based auction and banner sites I have developed or installed or maintained over the years, but most are offline now.  Most work for the past 3 years or so has been transitioned to PHP.
